Las Cruces Rotary Clubs Announce 2026 ‘Four-Way Test’ Essay Contest for Eighth Graders

The Las Cruces Rotary Club and the Las Cruces Rio Grande Rotary Club are inviting local eighth-grade students to participate in an essay contest focused on Rotary’s Four-Way Test. The competition will take place on Thursday evening, March 26, 2026.

Students will be asked to write, in their own handwriting, for 30 minutes about how one or more principles of the Four-Way Test apply to their lives. Essays may reflect experiences at home, at school, in sports, or in other personal activities. A two-page limit is recommended.

Founded in 1905, Rotary International has grown to more than one million members in local clubs worldwide. Rotary is nonpolitical and nonsectarian, and each club carries out community, national, and international service projects. Clubs also support educational programs such as the Four-Way Test Essay Competition.

Rotary members strive to apply the Four-Way Test to everything they think, say, and do:

• Is it the TRUTH?

• Is it FAIR to all concerned?

• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Students who wish to participate should apply by Wednesday, March 25, 2026, by email or text to Ken Martin at kjmartinnm@yahoo.com or 575-650-3304. Please include the student’s name, parent or guardian name(s), address, cell phone number, school, and teacher’s name.

The competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. on March 26 at Alma d’Arte Charter School, located at 402 W. Court Street in Las Cruces. Paper will be provided.

First, second, and third-place winners will be announced in late April. Award recipients will be invited to attend a Rotary club meeting, where they will be recognized and presented with a monetary prize.
